About AUROQUE.zine
Auroque.zine is a blogzine edited by Auroque - Associação Cultural, a non-profit organization with the form of a cultural association which objet is to promote , research and explore the boundaries of drawing within contemporary art and drawing as a tool for creative thought.Auroque.zine is a blogzine where it's shown what's being done globally in drawing within contemporary art,in its condition of bond between observation, gesture and thought. It's a blogzine where the particularity of drawing is shown in today's visual culture, in a dynamic of resistance against the fast pace of the digital era visual stimuli.
Through contributions filled with serious, amusing or radical approaches, Auroque.zine constitutes an observatory of what is understood by drawing today.
What's an auroque?
Auroque can be literally translated as aurochs, a species of savage bull considered extinct in the 16th century and which first graphic representaions date back to prehistory. Primitive depictions of aurochs can be found in the caves of Lascaux (France) and Altamira (Spain), or at plein air in the Côa Valley (Portugal). Aurochs are counted amongst the first motifs of man made graphic representations.
People and Credits
Rogério Guimarães is an artist and principal editor of Auroque.zine.He is co-founder of Auroque - Associação Cultural, the organization-mother to which the magazine Auroque.zine belongs to, being currently responsible for the editorial activities of this publication. In 2014 he concluded his MA in Contemporary Artistic Creation by the Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro and attended the course "The Expanded Field of Drawing" by the Slade School of Fine Art in London. In 2011 he studied and developed his drawing and painting techniques at Atelier Dois Pontos (Aveiro, Portugal), having previously attended the free courses of drawing and painting ministered by Casa da Juventude de Aveiro (the municipality of Aveiro Youth House). He graduated in Electric Engineering in 2008 by the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra (Superior Institute of Engineering of Coimbra) and sine 2005 that he's engaged in the production and experimentation in contemporary painting and drawing. His latest works adress the several aspects of the individuals' daily activities.
